Last month I joined 40 women artists at the magical Firefly Institute photography workshop up in Sonoma.

In addition to connecting with amazing women around a campfire and eating the tastiest poblano macaroni & cheese ever at Westerbeke Ranch, I took wonderful classes from talented and generous teachers.

Creating more videos with my DSLR is a goal of mine and it was such a treat to spend a few hours focused on this topic. I asked questions, learned some new tricks and then put my new findings into practice by creating this short video…

One of my favorite takeaways from camp was a reminder from Julianne Kost that it is always good to be a beginner. That is exactly why I enjoyed this class so much, I came in with no pressure or expectations of myself, merely a desire to learn and grow.

As we head into the new year, this concept will be top of mind for me as I evaluate my plans for the year.  Yes, I want to continue to hone my crafts but I am also looking forward to intentionally setting aside time to be a beginner again, hoping you are all able to do the same…
