Capture Your Mom’s Stories

Mothers Day is just around the corner – Sunday, May 13.  While time is running low to order a photo book for mom, if you are motivated you could make it happen!  This year, I’m thinking about a future book I will be making for my mom.

In a definite first for us, my mom and I just signed up for an online workshop called “31 Things“. Over the course of 31 days in May and June we will receive daily email prompts to document one story from our everyday life.  Each email will include a specific word/theme for the day, a detailed writing prompt, and a photo prompt.  I invited my mom to join me because I thought it would be pretty cool to get some of her everyday stories written down.   I asked her if she would be willing to do the writing and I promised to help with the photography and book making part of the project.  I’m so excited that she agreed.

If I was going to make a quick mother’s day book this year, I love the idea of using the quotes from Kobi Yamada’s She book as as a theme for any special woman in your life.

Happy early Mother’s Day to all of the amazing women out there.

Using Stock Photos

Quick tip for today: Do you find yourself looking back on your Spring Break photos realizing you forgot to capture certain pictures of the amazing place you just visited?  Try searching Google Images to find stock photos* that can help round out your travel stories.  These two books below show how I did just that for travel books about Mexico and Kansas City.

My tendency is to focus on my loved ones and also detail shots when I am traveling. While I’m getting better at remembering to step back and take those big picture where-were-we-and-what-were-we-doing type photos, it is comforting to know I have a backup plan!
