Oregon Road Trip

July has been a busy and wonderful month full of quintessential summer days with family and friends.  For the last 2 weeks I’ve been off on a road trip through Oregon with the kids.  Part of my inspiration for this trip was a much larger road trip my parents organized when my sister and I were the same ages as my kids.  They packed up our station wagon, attached a camper and spent the summer driving through every state from WI to CA.  Here we are off the coast of Oregon:

Our road trip was a bit shorter but we have had some great adventures such as jet boating, hiking, horseback riding and exploring lava caves and tide pools.  There has also been plenty of swimming, card games, frisbee playing and ice cream.  Here are some snapshots from the road…

My two great traveling companions…

…and I have covered a lot of ground and are still having a great time but will definitely be excited to see Dad when we return home in a few days!

Learning in Black & White

For the past 8 weeks I’ve been taking a great Black & White photography class taught by the talented Tracey Clark.  I signed  up for this class to develop a greater understanding of and appreciation for what makes a good black and white image.  I  love learning new things and this class definitely challenged me creatively to respond to the lesson prompts.

Throughout the course I’ve been slowly building a book to help me remember all of the techniques Tracey covered to capture monochromatic magic.  I decided early on that I only wanted to submit images to the class gallery that were taken during this class (i.e. no pulling from the archives) in an effort to push myself to practice the techniques introduced.  So in addition to acting as a lesson book, this photo book will be a nice reminder of some of the little life details around me during these last few months.  Here is a look at the book as it stands today…

While I’m sad the class and the supportive community it fostered are over, I am excited to go to press and have a little something on my coffee table to remind me of this great experience.
