Family Reunion Ideas

Oh family reunions – love them or hate them, they are somewhat of a summertime ritual.  In past years I’ve shared some tips about documenting family memories and also how to wrangle large groups into the classic family portrait.  If you can manage to get the photo and record a few memories you are well on  your way to creating a meaningful book to share with your family.  Here are a few more ideas to add interest and personality to a family reunion photo book…

1. Highlight where all of the reunion participants traveled from to attend the reunion.

2.  Include heritage photos.  If you are lucky enough to have a few pictures of the family members who are responsible for the group gathered at your reunion, those images and any accompanying details are a great way to begin or close a book.

3.  Your efforts in planning ahead for a group photo will pay off when the time comes to assemble a book.  In years past we have asked families to wear matching shirts and also had matching t-shirts designed by a talented cousin…

If you don’t happen to have a resident graphic designer in your family,  there are several fun companies online that offer design services just for this purpose such as kin.  When done right, matching shirts can be a fun way to create a sense of unity and send everyone home with a memento of your time together…

Or how about creating adorable number shirts like these for the cousin pictures…

Going with a matching shirt color is easy but suggesting a color palette with several options may be even easier for people.  Last summer we did neutrals + yellow, another idea would be navy with a pop of color like this:

With a little bit of advance planning you can create a memorable family reunion book that captures all of the fun you had during your time together and provides stories for future generations to share in the years to come.
